FR Entre chansons arabes empreintes de chaâbi et mélopées aériennes à la Nick Drake, Jawhar invente un style folk-soul bien à lui. Après « when rainbows call, my rainbows fly », salué par la presse, ce chanteur/compositeur d’origine Tunisienne, réinvestit sa terre natale et sa langue maternelle pour les faire chanter autrement.
Il vit entre depuis quelques années entre la campagne belge et la capitale tunisienne où il s’engage en tant que musicien, dramaturge et comédien. Touché par les révolutions du monde arabe, il souhaite rendre dignité aux hommes bafoués dans leurs aspirations de liberté.

NL Jawhar vindt een heel eigen folk-soul-stijl uit, die het midden houdt tussen Arabische liederen, gekenmerkt door de chaabi, en luchtige melopeeën à la Nick Drake. Na “when rainbows call, my rainbows fly”, enthousiast onthaald door de pers, zet deze singer-songwriter van Tunesische afkomst zijn geboorteland en zijn moedertaal opnieuw in om ze anders te laten zingen. Al enkele jaren woont hij afwisselend op het platteland in België en in de hoofdstad van Tunesië, waar hij als muzikant, dramaturg en acteur optreedt. Onder de indruk van de revoluties in de Arabische wereld wil hij de mensen die in hun verlangen naar vrijheid werden gefnuikt in hun waardigheid herstellen.

EN Jawhar has invented a soul-folk style very much his own, somewhere between chaabi influenced Arabic songs and Nick Drake-esque ethereal chants. Following the well-received ‘When rainbows calls, my rainbows fly’, the Tunisian singer-songwriter returned to his mother tongue and motherland to create a new style of output. For a number of years now he has been splitting his time between the Belgian countryside and Tunis, where he works as a musician, actor and playwright. Touched by the revolutions in the Arab world, he wanted to pay homage to those who have been treated contemptuously in their struggle for freedom.
