FR Denis Van Hecke s’est éteint en janvier 2012 après 40 ans de scène. Le festival rend hommage à ce musicien hors normes, ce personnage qui embrassait la musique au sens large. Il manipulait le violoncelle acoustique comme électrique, créa d’ailleurs son « cello électrique à cinq cordes » il y a 30 ans. On l’a vu aux côtés d’Higelin, de Vassiliu, de Dick Annegarn, dans “Musique Flexible » avec Frank Wuyts. C’est cet ami de toujours qui orchestre cette soirée exceptionnelle, accompagné d’Eric Longsworth notamment, lui aussi artiste inclassable, jouant du violoncelle comme s’il s’agissait d’une guitare, d’une basse ou, encore, d’une percussion. Influencé par ses racines américaines très folks et associé à la grande famille du jazz, il aime explorer toutes les facettes des musiques qui le touchent.
NLDenis Van Hecke overleed in januari 2012 na 40 jaar op de planken. Het festival brengt een eerbetoon aan deze uitzonderlijke muzikant die de muziek helemaal in zijn armen sloot. Hij speelde zowel op de akoestische als de elektrische cello en maakte 30 jaar geleden zijn eigen elektrische cello met vijf snaren. Hij speelde aan de zijde van Higelin, Vassiliu, Dick Annegarn en naast Frank Wuyts in Musique Flexible. Deze trouwe bondgenoot leidt ook het orkest op deze uitzonderlijke avond en hij wordt onder andere begeleid door Eric Longsworth : een muzikant die niet in een vakje te stoppen valt en zijn cello gebruikt als een gitaar, basgitaar of percussie. Zijn wortels liggen in de Amerikaanse folk en in jazz gaat hij op zoek naar alle muzikale facetten die hem ontroeren.
EN Denis Van Hecke passed away in January 2012 after a career of 40 years. The festival pays tribute to this exceptional musician who embraced music entirely. He played both the acoustic and electric cello and developed his own 5-string electric cello 30 years ago. He shared the stage with Higelin, Vassiliu, Dick Annegarn, and worked with Frank Wuyts on Musique Flexible. It is this faithful companion who will lead the orchestra during this unique night supported by Eric Longsworth, an unclassifiable musician who uses his cello as if it is a guitar, bass guitar or percussion. His roots are in American folk and in jazz he looks for all musical aspects that move him.
