NICOLAS THYS TRIO + HERMON MEHARI (ERI/US)
Nicolas Thys à la contrebasse et Jeroen Van Herzeele au saxophone : deux complices de toujours. Antoine Pierre à la batterie les rejoint avec le naturel qu’on lui connaît pour former une deuxième version du groupe qui a enregistré pour Igloo en 2000 avec le batteur Steve Altenberg et la chanteuse Ghalia Ben Ali en invitée.
Le répertoire est composé de standards et de compositions de Nicolas Thys.
La musique est pleine de fougue, de rythme, d’énergie et de cœur.
Aujourd’hui, le groupe s’étoffe d’un quatrième musicien invité : le trompettiste érythréen /américain Hermon Mehari à l’occasion du festival d’automne. Le Monde le dit "surdoué à la trompette", Jazz Magazine dit de lui qu’"il démontre un indiscutable talent, qui présage un avenir prometteur’.
Avec ces quatre artistes de haut vol, la soirée qui se dessine est pleine de promesses et d’inattendu, de maîtrise et d’aventure.
D’un festival à l’autre
Souvenez-vous, en janvier 2017, Nicolas Thys était le leader de la River Jazz Night avec The Sound People Project : trois projets desquels émanait une musique à la fois ancrée dans la terre et s’élevant vers le ciel. Twee eeuwige bondgenoten : Nicolas Thys op contrabas en Jeroen Van Herzeele op saxofoon. Het repertoire bestaat zowel uit standards als uit composities van Thys. Ter gelegenheid van het herfstfestival nodigt de groep een vierde muzikant uit : de Amerikaans-Eritrese trompettist Hermon Mehari. Volgens Le Monde is hij "een prodigieus trompettist" terwijl voor Jazz Magazine " zijn onbetwistbaar talent een veelbelovende toekomst aankondigt". Met deze vier hoogvliegers belooft het een verbluffende avond te worden vol virtuoze verrassingen en muzikaal avontuur.

Nicolas Thys on the double bass and Jeroen Van Herzeele on the saxophone have played together for years, offering a repertoire featuring standards and compositions by Nicolas Thys himself. Now, the trio is being joined by a fourth member in the form of a guest musician for the festival this autumn : the American-Eritrean trumpeter Hermon Mehari. Le Monde has called him “exceptionally talented on the trumpet” and Jazz Magazine says that “he demonstrates indisputable talent, which suggests he has a promising future ahead of him”. With these four top-class artists, the evening is set to be full of promise, surprises, skill and adventure.
